A lively journey through the life of Pharrell Williams, told through the lens of LEGO animation. Animal Logic, which animated the previous four theatrical Lego Movies, did not return to animate the film as it would be considered a betrayal of Warner Bros., despite Lego and Warner Bros. sharing the rights to the original franchise. Instead, the animation was done at Pure Imagination Studios in Los Angeles and Zebu Animation Studios in India. Both Pure Imagination and Zebu have previously recreated the style of the original film series with theme park attractions, a PSA, and the Die Simpsons (1989) episode “Brick Like Me (2014)”. The opening logos of Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Tremolo Productions, and the Lego Group are made of Lego bricks. A Pharrell Williams biopic, but made out of Lego bricks, cool and original. But you have to ask yourself, who was it made for? Because it’s too boring to be a kids movie, and most adults wouldn’t watch it because they’d think it’s a kids movie. I watched it by myself last night and I was really bored, the Lego biopic was the only thing that saved it, otherwise no one would have been interested in it, except Pharrell Williams superfans. Other than that, I don’t know how Focus Features survived a whole year, they’re the only movie company whose theater was consistently empty every time I went there, even though there were only 5 people in each theater. In two other films I saw this year at Focus Features, the auditorium was completely empty and I was the only person in the audio tower; it’s very rare for me to be alone in a theater.
